Dave Titherley plays a trumpet in his sextet called 'Quintessential'.

The ensemble originally had five members - thus the name - but they added a guitarist and didn't see any reason to change the name.

The sextet now comprises Kelly Ottaway on piano; Dave Titherley on trumpet; Dan Freeman on saxophones; Michael Nikererud on double bass; Sean Brady on drums and Nick Hart on guitar.

The ensemble plays original material and new arrangements by Kelly Ottaway, their pianist. They are particularly interested in "big arrangements of songs, with an emphasis on contrasts in colour and space".
